PUMA’s journey began in the year 1920s by two brothers – Rudolf Dassler and Adi Dassler. They started a small shoe business with the name Dassler Brothers Shoe Company in Herzogenaurach, Germany. The company’s shoes came into limelight in 1936 Berlin Olympics when legendary sprinter Jesse Owens won four gold medals wearing their shoes.

As companies sales are rising, Conflict of interest also raises amongst both the brothers. Nobody ever think that petty conflicts becomes the reason of company split. Finally both the brothers diverted their route leading to a dramatic split in 1948.

With all the experience he gained in Dassler Brothers Shoe Company, Rudolf Dassler again starts his journey from scratch and launched “Super Atom”, the first football boot with screw-in studs in the year 1952 under the brand name PUMA. This revolutionary design gave players better grip on the field, setting a new standard in sports footwear.

Till 1960’s PUMA has marked its presence as a key player in football. The brand sales spikes internationally when pele, One of football’s greatest legend pele, Wore PUMA boots in the 1970 FIFA World Cup.

But PUMA’s influence extended beyond football. The brand made a strong impact in track and field as well. In 1968, sprinter Tommie Smith wore PUMA shoes when he won the 200m gold medal at the Mexico City Olympics. PUMA positioned in the market as a sports wear brand but the brand never limited itself. In the year 1980s and 1990s, PUMA introduced new products range and expand their wings by launching streetwear, lifestyle fashion, and pop culture compatible products.
